Fans are invited to share their Driver Card designs on social media. We’ve reached out to a few who have done so and they’ve been incredibly generous with their time, sharing their stories with us.
We thought it was only right that the wider motorsports world hear about it too, so welcome to the “My Driver Card Story” series.
The first to tell his story was Fraser Lloyd of England:
I started watching Formula 1 with my family in early 2012 when I was 6 or 7 years old. One of my earliest memories is the Spanish Grand Prix that season, famously won by Pastor Maldonado with the team. Although I didn’t have the passion for the sport that I have now, I can say that it was a special result.
In 2014, the team really caught my eye with the Bottas and Massa line-up, the bright livery and the re-emergence of the pole positions. I remember spending many races that year watching the gaps to see if Valtteri or Felipe would be the one competing for a top 3 finish!
Around this time, I started delving into F1 history which led me to learn about the cars, drivers, and past successes of the team. The history of this team is second to none, and it’s one of the things I love about it. Many of the most important moments and iconic events throughout the history of the sport have been made possible by them, as have many innovations and perhaps the greatest car of them all: the FW14B.
Another thing I love about this team is their continued fighting spirit. No matter how tough things have been in recent years, they still come out of every race with the ambition and drive to get back to the top. As a fan, it’s great to enjoy the team’s current good results and hope that things will only get better!
Looking to the future, I am excited to see how Alex and Carlos will perform in 2025 as the team continues their quest to win again. Having two drivers at such a high level is just one reason to believe in the team. I have yet to see the team win a championship like I have read about, but I look forward to when they do.
In my time watching Formula 1, the most memorable moments were the team’s revival in 2014 which saw them fight for podiums regularly and take a fantastic pole position in Austria that year. Of the 2024 driver line-up, Valtteri Bottas remains my favourite driver to this day!
Some of my other favourite moments since then include Robert Kubica’s points-scoring finish at the 2019 German GP, a bright spot in the most difficult of seasons, George Russell’s unlikely front row at Spa in 2021 which turned into a podium, and most recently, the team’s third row lockout in Las Vegas last year.
My Driver’s Card has my initials (FL) and the number 25 because that is my birth date (I think it’s a good number too!).
Blue is my favorite color, so I knew I wanted to include it in my design since it’s also the team’s main color.
The choice of the UK helmet is to reflect the team’s strong performance there this year and Silverstone is my home race.
I love playing Pit Wall Predictions because it adds to the excitement of the race! It ensures that I pay more attention to team strategies during the event.
Collecting badges is also something I enjoy because of the feeling of exclusivity if I manage to collect them while they are still available – I have now managed to collect every Grand Prix badge by 2024!
Lastly, I find the app’s live feed with updates and lap times useful on race weekends, especially if I’m traveling and can’t watch live. The radio transcripts are a huge help!
