Chris Eubank Jr has sadly admitted he doesn’t want his dad by his side anymore – and that the pair are now ‘in a weird, weird place in our lives’.
It is an open secret that he wants to fight Conor Benn but his father, Chris Eubank Sr, has concerns about the fight.
Eubank Jr has now decided to step down from his position, insisting that he should be able to forge his own path.
As a result, the relationship between the two has now changed.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the boxing star said: “My dad and I are in a strange and slightly odd place in our lives at the moment.
“It’s very difficult to have your whole career with your dad, and then not be with him anymore in terms of boxing.
“I just felt like that was what I needed.”
Eubank Sr has concerns about weight management and the associated health risks while Eubank Jr continues to hope to face Benn.

The 34-year-old has built his boxing career with the full support of his father every step of the way.
He now admits that the situation is complicated and he cannot see a change in the situation until he finally retires for good, even though the decision is painful.
“I think this situation is likely to continue for some time,” he continued.
“I think I need to retire first so we can really be father and son, because right now, he can’t separate business and boxing from his role as my father.

“I told him, I don’t need advice. I don’t need a coach. I don’t need a mentor. I just need a father.
“But, he can’t do that. He’s still trying to figure out the dynamics, so I have to let him go, let him do what he wants.”
At 34 years old, Eubank Jr clearly feels this is the right time for him to make a change.
He thanks his father for all the wisdom he has passed on over the years, which has helped him become the boxer he is today.

However, Eubank Jr admits that the decision was a tough one for his father – and that he is now more than happy to take full responsibility for the decision he made.
“I felt like I wanted to – and I will tell him this as well – make my own decisions. My career can no longer be controlled by my father,” she said.
“Someday I’m going to write a book, and it can’t be all the things my dad said, I already did it.
“I have to find my own path and I have to make my own choices. I have to write my own future.

“He guided me, he helped me. He walked me through the early stages. But as an adult now, I am confident enough to make my own choices. Whether they are good or bad, I have to do them.
“If I succeed, great. If I fail, it’s still great, because it’s my fault. I can’t fail because of something I did that someone else told me to do. I’m not going to give him that power or pressure.
“I want everything to be on me. As a man, I think that’s fair. “But it’s hard for him to hear that because all my life, he’s always been there. He’s always been the one controlling me and telling me what to do, and I’ll follow him.
“So, that was tough for him to deal with. That mindset, what I said, and I wanted to move on with things. He struggled with that.”
